Due to resignation of Saulius Bilys, CEO of Amber Grid, Nemunas Biknius was appointed interim CEO of the company

The Board of gas transmission system operator Amber Grid has temporarily appointed chairman of the Board Nemunas Biknius as a CEO of the company. He will take up the post after the CEO of Amber Grid Saulius Bilys has resigned on October 28 due to personal reasons.

‘We are grateful for Saulius Bilys contribution to the development of a well-functioning gas transmission infrastructure in the country and the creation of a common Baltic gas market on mutually beneficial terms. Now there is a need of a new approach and a new impulse for the timely implementation of the gas interconnection between Poland and Lithuania project and for regional integration of the national gas market’, said Rolandas Zukas, CEO of EPSO-G, a state-owned energy transmission and exchange group.

As long Nemunas Biknius will take the position of CEO of Amber Grid, he will be suspended from the position of the Chairman of the Board of the company. He will hold the position of CEO until a permanent CEO is selected. The selection procedure will be decided at the next meeting of the Board.

Saulius Bilys has been managing the company since its inception in 2013. Before it, he was a head of Strategic development of Lietuvos Dujos.

‘After many years of working in the energy sector, we have had to follow a dynamic and exciting path towards creating and consolidating changes in the gas market. The establishment of the gas transmission system operator, the construction of the gas pipeline between Klaipėda and Kuršėnai, which allowed the liquefied natural gas to reach Lithuanian consumers, and preparation for the implementation of the strategic project - gas interconnection between Lithuania and Poland - were the major highlights of this period. I am grateful to all the colleagues we have worked with, but the time has come for change for me and for the company as well”, said Saulius Bilys.

S. Bilys intends to make concrete decisions on future plans later.

EPSO-G Director of Strategy and Development Nemunas Biknius has earned Master’s degree in Power Engineering from Vilnius Gediminas Technical University and has studied at Aalborg University, Denmark. N. Biknius has been working in the energy sector since graduation and has extensive technical, organizational and strategic planning experience. N. Biknius is also a member of the Boards of the Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid and the power exchange Baltpool.
